Clear Writer is a journal for Apple Vision Pro. Everything below is how it works, and the last line is how to reach a person.

russell.white.ux@gmail.com

Email is the fastest way to reach the developer. No account is needed to write, and no account is needed to ask for help.

Starting

Open the app and today's page is already in front of you with the cursor ready. Start typing, or use dictation. There is no save button because every word saves as you write it. On your very first launch, one card asks what should sit behind your words. You can change that any time in Format.

The controls

Above the page there is a small pill showing the date. Pinch it and it opens into two words, Journal and Format. It folds back into the date on its own, and typing folds it immediately. If you would rather it stayed open, turn on "Keep the buttons visible" in Format.

Journal

Journal opens on your five most recent pages. Each row leads with your own opening line, with the date underneath, so you are looking for a memory rather than hunting through dates. A page with nothing in it leads with its date instead.

Everything older sits under Earlier, with one row per month. Tap a month to see every page in it. That keeps Journal the same size whether you have twelve pages or twelve hundred.

When you write more than once in a day, the first page of that day wears the day and every later one wears the time it was written, so four pages on a Tuesday read as four moments rather than the word Today four times.

Vanishing ink

Open Format and choose Vanishing ink. Your words fade a moment after you write them. The cursor stays at the end and the page does not scroll back, so the only direction is forward.

Nothing is being deleted. Every word is saved exactly as you typed it. Choose "Show my words" at any time and the whole page comes back with the cursor at the end.

Text and window size

Format, then Text size, offers five sizes. The same screen has "Reset window size", which asks the system to return the window to a comfortable reading size if you have shrunk it too far to grab.

Accessibility

Clear Writer works with VoiceOver and Switch Control, and it respects the system settings for Reduce Motion, Reduce Transparency, and text size. With VoiceOver, Switch Control, or Reduce Transparency turned on, the controls stay open and never fold away.

If something goes wrong

My words are gone

First, check whether you are in Vanishing ink. If the foot of the page says "Show my words", choose it and the page returns. Nothing was deleted.

The window is too small to use

Open Format, then Text size, and choose "Reset window size".

A page I removed is still gone

Removing a page deletes it from the device permanently, and there is no backup on a server, because the app never sends your writing anywhere. If a page mattered, share a copy of it before removing it.

Requires

Apple Vision Pro running visionOS 26 or later. Clear Writer is free on the App Store.
